oh my gosh. 4 kids plus my own 2 kids plus 2 adults plus me…it was craziness…good clean noisy craziness. The chicken tenders I made were frigging awesome. you take a sleeve of townhouse crackers and crush them, add in some garlic powder and 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese, coat the chicken tenders (16) in oil, flop them around in the crackercheese crumbs, and bake them in a 375 degree oven for 20 minutes. Seriously, they are trailerpark food to die for. I am wondering how they would be in an egg wash (instead of oil) and let’s change up the cracker idea…maybe a half and half mix of panko breadcrumbs and hmmmm…normal breadcrumbs? crushed croutons? cornflakes?

My question is this: Why is it Lily behaves the most poorly at her own house? In a matter of minutes she had whacked the little boy over his head with her hard magic wand and pulled the other little girl’s hair. All the children cried at least once…Lily was the worst after being sent to the stairs for a little ‘time out’. Oh the huumanity.

While the kids ate their lunch, well, they ate the tator tots (bahaha), the adults ate fruit salad. I had also prepared a zesty little egg salad and provided toasted baguette slices but no one likes eggs I guess. Which leads me to suspect they may be communists.

After sending everyone home it was time to take Emma to her 18 mo. dr appt. Is it wrong for me to have a crush on the pediatrician? He is such a lovable nerdy cyclist guy. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the crush talk, you don’t want to know. I almost feel like a giddy school girl. Is it the hormones telling me to get pregnant? Idon’t know and I surely don’t care. At this moment I am pretty well resigned to being done with the babymaking. The latest reason is probably the lamest but has to do with how expensive raising children is. I just heard that when my girls are of college age, 4 yrs of school will run 250 thousand.

monday

Still no babies, guys. My sister appears to be clenching her nether region and that ain’t bad. The weekend came and went and the family had a very good time eating and chatting with my cecily and sam. I might even go so far as to suggest that the girls adore them.

Meanwhile, my sister is planning on moving to a much closer hospital on wednesday but that is all in the distant future because tomorrow I am hosting our very first playdate. This means I’ll be up late trying to get everything in order. I plan on serving homebaked chicken tenders and the failsafe tator tots for the kids lunch while the adults will dine on fruit salad and egg salad petit sandwiches. too much? There is a possibility for chocolate chip cookies if my ambition holds up.

While I’m on the subject of food, let me throw out that I cobbled together a very toothsome King Cake for my coonass friend…and it went over hugely. If she has the inclination, a photo posting may well be in our future here at bunintheoven.

and I know I am way behind on reading the latest on ya’ll but will remedy that tonight, inbetween hanging pictures and cleaning and baking.

oh ZZzzzzzzzZZz

No babies yet…which is a good thing to anyone but my sister, who is morbidly tired of being in the hospital. I guess it would suck ass…I keep trying to understand but all I can think about is how much she will miss this time to herself once the babes cry in tandem, projectile vomit/shite/drool in unison, and once she operates on 2 hours of sleep at best, while expected to make dinner, clean the house, and oh yeah, brush her own damn teeth.

All I know is my pals are coming up this weekend which means par-tay, especially if sister keeps her cervix clamped at 2 cm.

Mom is safely in town again and the girls are thrilled to have her, just as I am (altho already a little nit-picky about this and that. Lily is able to call her ‘Gram-ma’ as opposed to the previous ‘Dah-mah’ and for some reason I’m a little bummed. The Dama was so cool. Meanwhile, Emma has progressed no further on the speaking front. She get’s so much accomplished by just pointing and shrieking; it must be our fault somewhat but fuckit. What a happy baby!

Thanks for all the good thoughts/wishes, ya’ll. I send them along to the preggo hag who burst into tears on the phone with me tonight after failing to reach anyone while we were at dinner. gahhhhhh…hormones.

update

At 32 1/2 weeks, my sister is dilated 2 cm. The Dr thinks she will deliver anywhere from 1 to 4 days. Good Christ. I just hope she can hold off until our Mom gets here on thursday, so cross your fingers. The baby daddy got into town tonight.

As such, my bloggity swill may be a little on the spotty side. Just bear with me a bit until all of this is over and i can begin ranting about my sister and her twin hellions.

another first

I took the girls grocery shopping today. It was a feat unto itself since Lily has all but refused to sit in the shopping cart lately. “I want to walk with you Mom!” she complains and the best I can do is to let her climb up and hang on to the side while I push thru the aisles. (ther shoppers love me) Today I convinced her to sit under the basket part while Emma sat in the front, and the only reason this set up worked I think, was because of the free m&m cookie they each got.

So we trekked thru the store, pulling or debating over produce, cutting thru, eyebaling deals…at one point I heard a vague crinkling noise and looked down to find Lily had snagged a bag of Easter colored Hershey kisses. “No ma’am, you are not to just take things you want. always ask me first.” “Ok, Momma, ok.” Who knows how long this trip took, but by the time we made it to the check out, the place was packed and we had to wait in line. I leaned down to peep at Lily and was met with hooded eyes. In her hand she clutched a bright red ball, her mouth smeared with the same garishness, and in the other hand sat the remainder of a package of OVERSIZED, BRIGHTLY COLORED, GUMBALLS. I was not thrilled. or pleased. or even slightly happy.

I extricated the remaining gumballs from her clutching fist, placed them on the counter and waited for the checker to get us the hell out of there. By then Emma had decided it was time to squall so I held her in one hand and shot Lily (big eyed and innocent) the evil eye now and again. “She’ll swallow it in no time.” I thought to myself.

But I was wrong.

She chewed and chewed. She chewed before I wiped her face, she chewed after I wiped her hands, and continued chewing as I drove home. I glanced into the rearview mirrow and found her chew chew chewing with her eyes closed at one point. She even went to sleep but as delightful a concept as it was, I knew what would happen next if I didn’t get that gum out of her mouth.

Back in the day for my birthday one year (I must have been 3 or 4) my Mom gave me an entire pack of Big Red gum. We were relatively poor and gum was a rare treat. I distinctly remember patiently unwrapping and chewing every last stick of cinnamon gum in that 12 pack, (or was it 17?). But what I really remember was waking up to a huge wad of BigRed gum stuck to my bangs and how my mother had to cut it out with a pair of scissors. As cute as my sleeping beauty was, I knew I’d have to get that gum from her.

We got home, I got her up to bed, snuggled in with her, and tried to get her to relinquish the contraband. She complained. She squirmed away. She resisted until I had to get the gum myself and by then she was wide awake and screaming at the injustice but all I could think about was that Big Red. Nap time was officially over and I was officially a big sea hag.

It was the first time she had chewed gum without immediately swallowing it. Such a big big girl!

So I’m doing laundry when Lily walks up clutching a little tray with four little teacups in four little saucers.

Her: Would you like some tea, my darling?
Me: Oh yes, which one can I have?
Her: You can’t have any one.
Me: Well, I would like this one (reaching over)
Her: Mom! If you want some tea, just ask me for some tea.
Me: Ok, may I have some tea please?
Her: Nooooooooo.

wow. It is dead out here tonight, you people on my links list are not writing ANYTHING. What, are you actually enjoying your saturday night? How obnoxious, and insensitive, and selfish of you.

It is freezing ass cold outside and I am waiting on everyone to head out to the hospital. Tonight I’m taking my sister a few of my favorite books: The Little Prince, Alice in Wonderland, Slaughterhouse Five, Angela’s Ashes…the nicest thing about taking books to a bedridden person is you KNOW they will get read.

Okay, effers…well, by the time I check back you’d better have written something or else our relationship is officially OVER.
