yesterday afternoon while my sister watched ‘charlie and the choocolate factory’ a little too loudly the doorbell rang. Technically, this would be the first guest to ring our doorbell. I opened the door and found a well-dressed woman in her early 70’s smiling at me. she asked me with a smile.

Me:Hello…I began, a little uncertain as to whether or not she would try to sell me something.
Her:Are you the woman of the house?
Me:Yes, I am.
Her: My name is Candace and we live over there (pointing). My husband Walter and I wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood.
she held out a thin black bag that could only be indicative of some wine-goodness inside.

and there I was. decked out in older than old gym clothes with awful hair, clutching a wiggly baby in my arms while a movie BLARED behind me. “um, would you like to come in?” I asked helplessly, feeling like I needed to ask if only for politeness sake, as abashed as i was beginning to feel. “Oh no dear, maybe some other time.” and she left. after welcoming a total fool into town.

Now I have to compose a thank you note that somehow makes up for how foolish i felt. gahhhhhh. I am thrilled to have a nice neaighbor for once tho, that kicks ass.

back to basics

So after a three week hiatus I am taking the girls back to the gym. Holy hell I haven’t missed that much time since giving birth but what with all the extra calories from the holidays and from having my sister living with us (she is a terrible influence on me in her pregnant state.), it is just time. so wah wah wah.

My friend from New Jersey is in Dallas this week attending some medical doctor seminar but she didn’t rent a car. This means if I want to see her I have to drive an hour there and an hour back which is way less thrilling than picking fleas out of my pubic region but I’ll prolly suck it up and make the drive at least twice before she leaves. The good news is that she is planning on moving to Austin following her residency graduation thing sometime in the spring which means I’ll get to see her a whole lot more often.

And in other news, having my own Mom living under the same roof with me has begun raising some of the same hairy issues that it always does. Namely, I feel myself becoming increasingly more and more irritated with her mannerisms. ie how she speaks, folds laundry, plays with the girls, breathes, etc. Is it possible to have a more positive relationship with one’s mom once we are no longer children? It would kill me to discover my own girls harboring these same feelings for me after they become adults themselves. Must. Break.The. Cycle. Does anyone else find themselves overly annoyed with one or both of their parents? And how do you work through it without snapping their heads off?

note: Just because se makes me apeshit doesn’t mean I despise her. It also doesn’t mean I want her to live in a different state. Perhaps it is as simple as her living in her own house?

year one

Today was Emma’s one year birthday. There was a huge party at her gramma’s house with a monster cake and many family and friends. She turned one and her great grandma turned 90. It was prety amazing and I am going to see if I can find a good picture of her in that snazzy little frilly party hat. You would just *die*. Cecily gave it to her for a Christmas present last year in prep for today and I just wish Emma had liked wearing it more. Instead of crabbing out and making that constipated look of incredible annoyance.

Thanksgiving kicked total ass as did our own annual dayafterthanksgiving thanksgiving. You know, when we moved up here from Austin, the day after celebration was meant as a means for all of us to get back together again, to eat good food, drink good wine, and give appreciation and thanks, for love and friendship and another good year. Gradually, over time, the group has gotten smaller. Our friends have new families of their own and no longer make the trip up but there are two old blokes who seem to make it every single year. And we love them for it.

Let me just say a few words about my new range. It is the SHIT. If anyone can truly love an inanimate object, I love my viking.

So I am taking a few moments to give thanks. Life is good and we are blessed and I am thrilled to have ya’ll for digital internet friends. I hope your holiday was as good and here’s to many many more!

hump day

So happy wednesday everybody. This morning after Emma’s shower, I plopped her down on my rug with a towel while I put in my lenses. This didn’t last long and the towel came off and she started howling with dismay. This is total normal Emma behavior. I glanced down to find her peeing on my rug. Like a little puppy. I may have mentioned this before but she’s passed into that ever-exciting stage of needing to empty her bowels/bladder following any foray into warm, soapy water.

so great. I don’t know how natural woven seagrass will handle baby pee but I’m going to find out sooner or later.

Yesterday I helped my sister’s boyfriend unload their uhaul. Pregnant women get coddling, and rightly so. She should enjoy this while she still can because the twins will drive her to drink sometime during that first week she brings them home with her. (She is due in early march.) Anyway, I managed to clean my clock pretty hard. The uhaul could only back in to the garage so far and like one of those slapstick black and whites, we were having to duck going back and forth so as not to bash our respective skulls on an overhanging roof beam. Leave it to me to forget. and it was a doozy. I nearly had to take a time out and as a result feel a mild case of brain damage settling over my new world.

Yes, we are here and all is well. Except that moving sucks ass and there are boxes everyplace and disorganized chaos. Unlike the organized chaos that echoed my previous life.

I’ll write more as *MY* computer is set up and I get a little time to chill. Thanks for the good thoughts ya’ll and I’ll be reporting in very soon.
