nightmare realized

Have I mentioned before how I take a big plastic glass of water to bed with me everynight? How about my middle of the night fear of taking a swig only to find a huge spider floating inside and winding up with an arachnid in my mouth? It’s true, I get wiggy about it.

This morning while Shan moved around very slowly he handed me his own water glass (plastic). “Look what I found in here.”

And there it was, a damned brown recluse.

WTF! That’s just nasty.

Why oh Why

did the little fool checking me out at the ‘premier‘ grocery store think I was an idiot? Why did he not take my word for the price of the white chocolate? Why did he send his bagger to determine whether I was correct? Then, when the bagger came back and assured him I was right, why did he decide to stop everything and go back to check for himself? It was a matter of 4 dollars for crissakes! Do they make commission? HAH! Then he came back and gave me the freakin’ price break but by then there was little joy to it. I am no longer ‘cool’ enough to get the benefit of the doubt from little punks nowadays. How could I not be cool with Emma strapped to the baby bjorn and Lily buckled in the shopping cart, wickedly playing with everything within reach? Oh the humanity.

I freaking HATE comcast. Now I can’t get to my frigging email. Okay, some internet is okay but I need it all DAMMIT! And the repair effer is supposed to be here sometime between 10 AM and 2 PM.

Okay, here are my personal 5 things that I miss from childhood:

1) Summer Vacation: those 2 and one half months of unadulterated joy away from tedious classrooms, hazardous math problems, and bullies. The only thing that sucked was remembering school would be starting again.

2) Slumber parties: we never did anything heinous or particularly wicked. It was just nice to be a pack of girls, staying up late, watching tv and eating chips or other delicacies, chatting about things we knew nothing about (boys/sex), and telling filthy jokes.

3) Laying in bed at night and listening to my Dad’s snoring. It was louder than all get out, even from down the hallway, but the sound kinda of wore you down in a good way. It was comforting.

4) Climbing trees: I totally miss the trees we had in the backyard up in Minnesota. They were enormous but don’t you dare ask me what kind they were, I have no idea, other than they were perfect for climbing up and reclining on one of their numerous stout limbs.

5) saturday morning cartoons: I would wake up earlier than everyone and start watching tv. It was the only time I had free reign of the idiot box and you better believe I didn’t take it for granted. I’d get bummed if Captain Kangaroo was still on, for some reason I hated that show.

oh barf

nothing says ‘home-cooking’ and makes you feel warm about your own culinary skills quite like the sound of your husband puking his guts out in the next room. At least it’s the bathroom.

We’ve been reading about beans and gas pains. Apparently these super-special pinto beans from colorado have more gas problems than the usual. And the whole stopping by ‘Steak and Shake’ for a chocolate shake was about the last thing you are supposed to do if you have a bad stomach. (beans and icecream, irrespective of one another are heavy gas producers) All I know is I am not barfing. yet. However, I still have the pain. and it is insidious. As a little bonus info you’ll be happy to know I’ve also got a case of the toots.

This is going to be a long, noisy, fetid night.

bad parenting, again

After dinner tonight shan and I drove the girls and the dogs to a new lot. The slab had been poured last week and today the framers came in and started putting up the house frame. Emma fell asleep on the way so we parked, left the a/c going, and got out to look around. For some reason, the neighbors across the street came over and introduced themselves. Lily played by herself, picking up nails and trying to fit them into whatever pipe she could find while we chatted amiably amongst ourselves. Then they left. I went to the car the check on Emma and also to get the damned photocard since like a freak I noticed after I’d taken a ton of pics that there was no card inside. Baby was sleeping still and I grabbed the card. While walking back to the slab, another set of neighbors had walked up and were engaging Shan in more chattage. At this point Lily started acting like a pain in the arse. She camped out at one of the water faucets and just played played played. On. off. on. off. on. off. We blabla’d more and more.

Woman: Is Lily your only child?
Shan: Oh no, we have another one, she is in the car sleeping.
Man: You left her in the car?

zzZZZZzz…so basically they think we suck. I could tell by her expression, all wide eyed with disbelief, despite Shan’s very fine attempt at an explanation. “We just didn’t think it was right to wake her up so we could walk around in the hot hot sun.”

Then, I guess stricken with guilt, Shan went to check on Emma and sure enough she was awake. and had been crying but I am telling you, it must have been only a few minutes because she was STILL SLEEPING DAMMIT! (cough) So he brings her back to the adult ring and we resume the BS’ing. Then comes my most favorite question in the mf’ing world.

Man: So Anne, do you work or are you a homemaker?

Once you become a SAHM, your previous life, accomplishments, everything, basically means dicksquat. Tho perhaps I am projecting some bizarre feeling of inferiority. This is quite possible but hayzoos kristay I hate that term ‘homemaker’. “No, man, I’m not a homemaker, I’m a goddamn COCKTAIL maker.”

this no internet business is killing me. The *only* good thing about it is that I get more done during the day. For example, today while the girls slept, I weeded the back flower beds. To say I took a sweat shower would be dead on. I also made blueberry jam and a pot of beans for supper tonight. Note to self: the reason people soak beans the night before is to get rid of all the gas producing agents inherent to said beans. My superawesomemexican cookbook has a toothsome recipe for frijoles but says you don’t need to soak, provided you add ‘epazote‘ to the cooking pot. Since i had no epazote, soonafter eating the deliciousness that comprises a complete protein (pinto beans and basmati rice), sprinkled with sharp cheddar and a healthy spoon of diced avocado, my stomach region bloated up like a whoopiefriggincushion. I am still in pain. Please add gasX or beanO to the next shopping list for crissakes.

Now both girls are sleepin and I have nothing amusing to share. Go effing figure. At least the mister showed me how to fix the internet temporarily so that I can get my fix on ya’ll during the day. Of course, the repairmen should be by sometime tomorrow. gahhhhhhhhh…

Now I am going to read about all ya’ll! YAY!

here is the deal

the frigging modem just stops working for no apparent reason. it’s been doing this for the past 3 days. Shan called comcast yesterday and the earliest they could get someone out is thursday..which of course is totally unacceptable. Then we decided switching to dsl is a good idea anyway so he is looking into that there crap.

I will not be a happy camper unless I can keep up with ya’ll too.

oh crap

it is very possible we’ll be changing from cable to dsl this week since we are having troubles with our cable line/modem. This means no more blogging with any kind of regularity. You know what this means, now I shall lose my mind. No internet! Holy crud.
