Happy Birthday to ME!

So I got some really nice presents this year, the year of my 32nd birthday..I am older than most of you hags and wallow in the extra living I’ve aquired. So HAH!

Since I already baked my own double raspberry cake over the weekend (pictures to follow), tonight I will partake in the brownies Shan’s grandmama is bringing. mmmmm…chocolate goodness.

Shan and I did something for the first time tonight. It was fabulous, an absolute scream, and not at all sexual. Unless you consider the consumption of chocolate as sexual and although sex can be great, let’s be honest people, there is nothing in this world as sublime as chocolate perfection.

If you’ve never tried this, I highly reccommend you buy one and share it with your sweetheart. Or eat it all yourself, hell, just get you some!

The deal

What is it? Why won’t Emma sleep lately? These past few nights have been wretched paradigms of on-again off-again crying that is making absolute rest impossible. I hate wanting to throw her outside so I can get some precious sleep. Last night she awoke malcontent and cying inconsolably and nothing I could do would quiet her. Lily wandered in and I took Emma and we wandered out into Lily’s twin bed of abject misery. Why of why do I even bother with a blanket that is not long enough?! Having my calves exposed just adds more insult to injury and makes quality rest a figment of someone’s sick imagination. Then Lily stumbled back into her room and climbed into the twin bed with us. I’m telling you, sleep was not an easy thing last night.

Today I got the baby some teething pain medication (swabs ) and I just hope they help with this. Assuming her newbie teeth are the culprit but hail, I’ve been wrong before. Maybe she just doesn’t want me to sleep. Ever.

Do you have a son?

So we three girls went to the almighty COSTCO today following a very useful trip to the grocery store. I always wind up with more than I originally went in for but today was a little on the ridiculous side. All you need to know is that I got Lily a new book and it is an awesome book, a book that reminds me of when I was a little squirt. My Mom always did a good job with book shopping and particularly in getting me kid-friendly natural science or anthropology books, the ones chock full of glorious colorful glossy pictures and with pages broken down into discrete zones of interest…little blurbs about this and that, which I believe is the best way to spark further interest but enough about mememememe. I found a book like that only the topic was STAR WARS. Lily saw it and went apeshit which of course delighted me, so I handed it to her and she looked through it, making loud comments and asking all manner of thoughtful questions. “This a good guy or a bad guy, Mommy?”

While we’re waiting to go through check out a woman pulls up behind us and she has a 6 or 7 yr old girl in her cart and Lily, who loves other kids, starts waving like a mad hatter trying to get this girl’s attention. Well, she does and the little girl who of course knows all about Star Wars smiles at Lily and asks her, “Oh! Can I see your book for a minute?” And Lily just hands it over very carefully, and a little warily I should add. So all this is going on when the Mom asks me, “Wow! She (Lily) really seems to like Star Wars, does she have an older brother?”

Now I am not taking this way out of proportion but since when is liking Star Wars a particularly masculine thing? Certainly to some extent old vietnam movies or boxing movies or shoot-em up flicks (all of which I like btw) can be looked at as more testosterone oriented but is appreciating adventure/fantasy/sci-fi something only boys like? puuu-leeeeze. So I just told the woman that, no, Lily doesn’t have an older brother and left it at that.

silly acrylamide

Once again the state of California gets a litte zany. If they start putting acrylamide warnings on potatoes and olives and breads, then they should also start putting warning labels on any foods containing di-hydro-oxygen because too much exposure to water can also be harmful.

This is what I got to clean up following a very fine lunch of sliced turkey meat, cheddar cheese, watermelon cubes and leftover creamed corn. Then Lily dumped her milk all over everything and well, you get the idea. I was thrilled.

Baldy

Okay, does anyone else know about this? Emma has a spot of hair on the back of her head that is definitely thinner than the rest. She was born with as much hair, if not more, than Lily but in the past month there has developed a definite pattern of hair loss in the back. Today, after it dried following a bath, the hair back there looked funny. Kinda dry and brittle. She’s got a drs appt. in a few weeks and I’ll talk to the pedia then but it kinda bothers me now. Is it from sleeping on her back? I put her on her stomach most of the time but she likes to turn over. I just can’t believe that she is doing this to her own scalp but I dunno.

I’ve never owned a slave, or was a slave, I didn’t wander forty years In the desert after getting chased out of Egypt. I haven’t burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut-the-Hell-up already.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson practices, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you’re running from them.

I also think they have the right to pull your ass over if you’re breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

And, no, I don’t mind having my face shown on my drivers license. I think it’s good…..and I’m proud that “God” is written on my money. I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don’t want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me crap or trying to guilt me into making “donations” to their cause. These people should be targets.

I believe that it doesn’t take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

And what the hell is going on with gas prices… again?
