politeness factor

Yesterday after fixing Lily some cereal and milk, she asked me, “May I have some chocolate milk, please?”

It startled me on two counts. One, it was a perfect complete sentence. Two, it was so polite. I am so all over the politeness quotient. Not only do I want people to swoon over how beautiful my girls are and how vastly intelligent they appear, I want everyone to be utterly charmed by their politeness. This will more than make up for the foul language they learn from me.

At least this is my dream.

So what could I do? I beamed at my baby girl and fixed her a cup of ultra-chocolately milk straight away.

dreams you don’t share

So last night we ate supper over at our friend’s home. After making a ton of cosmo martini’s for everyone, and following a few hands of chicken-foot dominoes (note to self: don’t get stuck with the double blank), overall loquatiousness set in. We were all feeling pretty good and therefor plenty chatty and someone started talking about a dream they had last night. Then someone else described their strange dream. And on and on. Now I had experienced a very freakish dream but due to the sensitive company, felt that sharing it would not have gone over very well. It was just gross enough that only my family and very close friends would be able to handle it.

For some reason, in this particular dream, I started coming down with white spots all over my body. At first they resembled tiny clumps of aphids but somehow the pox turned out to be an all-over case of genital warts. Yeah, you can imagine why I might be less than interested in sharing. Weirdness! And now, I’ve never been stricken with G.W. but I have seen enough ultra-close up photos to be scarred for life, apparently.

Whenever Lily comes across some loose change laying on the counter, she immediately starts fondling it and chirps, “Wowwww!! awesome!!”

It’s hi-larious!

Now I am trying to tear her away from the coins for breakfast and she is saying, ” Bye money. Put in pocket.” As she worriedly searches for a pocket on her union suit. No dice, baby. Time for some mini-wheats!

like puppies

I woke up before everyone this morning and have spent my time doing various and sundry things of trmemendous import, such as: making coffee, stripping the meat from a roast chicken (tuesday’s supper)and freezing it, spending some much needed lurk time on the internet…

A few moments ago, I walked into our bedroom to find my three loves still sleeping. Emma and Shan were on the outside with Lily in the middle. Just then, Lily squirmed a bit and snuggled close to Emma. Then she lifted one of her ankles and placed it on Emma’s side and while I expected baby to protest, she didn’t move an inch. I know that as sisters the two girls will fight and complain and say hurtful things to each other but right now they co-exist so sweetly. I wish the lighting was better in there so I could take a picture to show them in the future. “Look, girls! Look how cute you were!”

It’s so calm and wonderful right now.

A mad woman. Frothing at the mouth. Overwhelmed with fury. Digging through the outside trashcan for a lousy pair of lost carkeys while the neighbors’ have their lawns mowed. She is pushing aside old lettuce shavings and well-past-due diapers as flies buzz around insultingly. The lawnmowing and weedeating men look on, curiously, as she screams into the phone to her husband, “I am in HELL!” It is loud enough that her father-in-law can hear the cursing.

That was this morning before going to the gym. I searched through the outside trash twice humiliating myself. I looked in the regular kitchen trash can, braving the toxic leftover pork juice at the bottom of the sack.

And yes, it was gross. After taking a few moments to collect myself, I checked my shorts from yesterday and there they were. In a pocket. In the bathroom.

So I got to experience humility during the apologetic telephone call back to my husband. There’s nothing quite so fulfilling as making oneself look good in front of the parent’s in law.

the problem with pull-ups

Just as I suspected, pull-ups aren’t so grand after all. They sometimes leak unless she pees while standing up. Then there is the number two issue. This morning, Lily came to me bare-assed and said, “Mommy, poopoo.” We walked into her room where I found her pull-up, crumpled on the floor, loaded with pellets and a little trail of said pellets leading out the door. It was like a psychotic scene derivation from E.T.

This potty training is taking a long, long time.

I’ve just gone through the house closing doors and windows so that my neighbors cannot hear the children crying… nay, screaming.

Emma is upset because I am not holding her. Lily is upset because I threw away her torn papersack.

We all scream

Tonight, Eyeball and I got a hankering for some icecream. This was long after I’d had the opportunity to pawn the girls off on their father for a few hours. At last the taste of freedom was mine and I went with it. or rather, I went with Eyeball. First we went to get pedicures. Sweet heaven above it had been at least 5 months since my scaly feet and toes had gotten any love and they were in sore need of attention. Let me just say I felt sorry for the little guy who worked me over but he was incredible. The calf massage was to die for. Just ask eyeball. She wound up with a newbie and my guy took over for her as soon as he finished me off. (as it were.)Then, with scrubbed and flossed toots, we walked over to the Bath and Body shop. EB had introduced me to a very fine product of theirs the week before (I’m not finding it on their website but it is a lip-exfoliating scrub that is made with sugar granules and it really helps with dry lippys.) This stuff, though, is super fine too, especially as a chaser to the scrub. I’ve always been a burt’s bees lip balm fan but it kinda blows it away. Not to mention it is sweet tasting. I haven’t been in that store since December and it looks like they are branching out with some new product lines. I’ll be honest, I wanted it all.
By the time we made it back to the grandparents, Emma had had enough and was making everyone there crazy. It was the first time we’d been away from one another for more than an hour and she was tired of it. Once I scooped her up she was all smiles again, the little monkey, and I’m thinking we need to continue these little experiences so she doesn’t wind up a complete titty baby (I hate the term but what would mean the same thing?).
After dinner, we went back into town for some icecream. It was really cute, Lily had never been to an icecream shop before and she was aghast. I ordered my standard: sweet cream with fresh strawberries and chocolate sprinkles crushed in while EB got banana with peanut butter cup. Hello deliciousness!

Now we are conked out and I am thrilled. It was a really nice day. Everyone needs one of those once in a while.
