So we dropped Lily off with her Grandparents and got to the pottery studio in record time. The owners/potters pointed us in the direction of some cheap wine, promising that “It will make your first pot a lot easier.” There were only three total students and one teacher; I love that kind of a ratio and shan and I had all manner of fun. We got to make 5 different vessels apiece, pick out different glazes, and chattypantsed for three hours. Now it was all new to Shan and he did really well, which is no surprise given his innate handson-edness. He even got so focused into it a few times that he went above and beyond the normal bowl and graduated to a drink-sized vessel. I can’t wait to see how everything turns out. In the car on the way home he said, “I’m really glad you signed us up for this, it was a really good date.” He even threatened to build a potter’s wheel and a kiln. God, that would be so incredibly awesome. I would LOVE to really learn how to do this, it’s just so satisfying to work in this kind of a medium, earth and water and minerals. Like gardening but without the plants, almost. Hard to explain.

I made a gravy boat. and a few bowls. yippee!

After we picked Lily up (she was sleeping), Shan whispered, “You wanna go to McDonald’s?” I gasped, realizing how incredibly hungry I was, ” Sure! I went to the gym today.” HAH. A burger and fries later I am wondering if we should have just eaten some leftover casserole.

Now that the wedding is past, I can concentrate on the business hooplah. This week I am scheduled to bring in more samples than ever before in 5 days time. This is both good and bad. Good, since obviously revenue for this month will be awesmoe and bad, because working around Lily will be tricky. Right now she is crabbing at me from the saladspinner (exersaucer). Lets see, Lily news…
LAst night before her bedtime, I fed her a big old dinner and gave her a bath. Bathtime right before bed is a wonderful invention and I’d like to congratulate the individual responsible for coming up with it. Dinner consisted of a mash of oatmeal, formula (I have no pump), and banana, and she ate a surprising amount. Then I topped her off with a few moments of nursing. This veritable smorgasbord came together in hopes of getting her to sleep through the night. Everyone we talked to about her recent 4 hour sleepstrints believe she was just getting hungry. And it worked. She slept a full 6 hours, which isn’t as good as a full 8 hours, but you know, it was much better thanthe 4 hour sprees I was struggling through. Shan’s sister told me that by the time her kids were 5 months old, she was feeding them 5 times a day and they not at all in the middle of the night. Well, I had never tried not nursing Lily when she woke me up so I thought I’d give it a shot the night before the wedding. Not a good plan. She woke me up at about 4AM (after waking me up at midnight) and I went in to comfort her without nursing. She wailed for a full 45 minutes before I caved in and decided it was a bad night to try this, since I needed sleep and bad. Sometime today I will try to read-up on what the experts reccommend. The hairdresser who put my hair up Saturday morning was a true believer in feeding cereals right before bed. “It just fills their little tummy right up, you know!” So, we’ll see.

In other Lily news, yesterday evening I took it upon myself to clip her long fingernails. Those things grow faster than you would believe it. So, we left her Dad in the living room to read OoTP (he is addicted) and went out o nthe back porch, me with the clippers in hand. Lily is not what you could describe as a non-wiggleworm. Her hands and fingers flutter all over the place which makes clipping nearly a twoman job, unless she is asleep. And I always forget to do it when she is sleeping. In any event, the first hand went well, but the second hand a little less-so. I managed to nick the end of one of her fingers but thankfully, she didn’t even notice. At least I didn’t cut into the quick, that is always one of my fears. So her finger was bleeding, I called out to Shan to help me clean it, which he did, and I popped her into her little swing for a few minutes to fold clothes. She played happily and then I noticed the little tray in front of her was streaked with something. Yep, her little finger was just bledding all over the place. Poor baby. So I had to trick her into letting me apply pressure to her finger, by making holding the burprag around it into a game. Another point for the incompetent mother of the month!

Looks like I have a new month to compete in. yay!

Tonight is that pottery class and all I need to do today is run by the office, work on some rush samples, invoice, and run to the grocery store. weehee.

Oh MY LOrd.

We spent yesterday up at the lakehouse. Lily, Amo, and Nonnie and I went blackberry picking in the light rain. Thank goodness for the light rain, it was overcastand I firly believe that was the only thing keeping the temperature under 90. It was wonderful and I gathered about 2 lbs. of berries in a half hour with Lily in her baby bjorn. She didn’t mind the rain but she let me know her true feelings about things almost every time I bent down to grab at particularly fine berries. Next time we’ll leave her with Dad et al. Sheeeze.

When we got back today I discovered 18 samples. That in addition to needing to get a pedicure, an outfit for tonight’s rehearsal dinner, and a slew of other distasteful activities, has made it pretty ragged going. Lily was great for me at Kohl’s, nearly until the very end. The problem was that I couldn’t decide on anything. Nothing jumped out at me but I kept trying and trying new dresses and whatnot. Suckedtobeme. Finally I decided to just wear one of my old skirts and be done with it. The rehearsal dinner is in 2 hours!

Tomorrow I have an appt. at 9AM to get my hair put up, then Im supposed to bring sandwiches and drinks to the wedding party at 11 (Subway, Jason’s Deli, or homemade? Who can say?). The wedding is at 1PM with reception thereafter. Shan is already a bit grumpy about all of it but he can just make do. Lily Grandparents agreed to watch her for a few hours so yeehaww.

I did finish Harry Potter yesterday and whatever ill-will I had towards the author at the beginning has been utterly replaced with goodwill. I think I have liked every new book a little more than the previous and the order of the phoenix is no exception. I love it love it love it. Now Shan is reading it and I can’t wait for him to finish so we can discuss. I wonder if Harry is ever going to make up with Snape? It seems like if they worked through their differences and prejustices, they might wind up very close to one another. Poor Snape. I cannot WAIT for the next installment.

Lily woke up this morning at 1, crying and she didn’t stop crying even after a feeding. Shan kept asking me what was wrong with her and of course, I had no idea. She didn’t have a fever, or a bad diaper, or a rash…and we didn’t have any children’s tylenol so I just walked around with her, trying to comfort her for about a half hour until she calmed back down enough to sleep. Luckily, Shan’s parents didn’t suffer a whole lot. This new place has better insulation against sound. Poor little miss.

I just put Lily down to sleep for the night and so have a few minutes before having to clean the kitchen ,which is pretty well a desaster zone, along with the bathromo but I’ll get to that. This weekend we spent with Shan’s folks at their new lakehouse. The new lakehouse is 100 times better than their first one, and I loved the first one. Not only does the new one have a larger screened in porch but Shan and I have a bathroom to ourselves, this time. We brought Darwin and Lily (of course) and some yellow squash from the garden. Shan and GG spent most of the time hooking up appliances, putting in light fixtures, and helping me and Amo unpack and organize. Let’s be honest, I wasn’t too much help here, I mainly took care of Lily and ate whatever food they prepared. Oh yeah, and I also read some of the new harry potter when I could.

Harry Potter. So far two things: The first 20 pages were obnoxious to me. Almost non-compelling. I didn’t like her dialogues and she used ’snarl’ constantly, to describe various characters talking to one another. I got past being annoyed with it though, and now I am thoroughly enmeshed. In fact, after this I am going to rush through cleaning up the kitchen and bathroom, and take out my contacts so I can get back to reading.

We kept Lily up late last night. Around 10 PM, an hour later than her normally scheduled bedtime, I decided it would be good to give her a bath. I had brought a little box of Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Bathtime accoutrements so we were all set. The only problem is that there was no bathtub (the giant jacuzzi tub wasn’t hooked up yet since the stone mason needs to come up and tile in the masterbath, or something) so I decided to wash her in our sink. After filling it with warm water, setting out her washcloth and towel, and stripping her out of her diaper, I set her in the sink. Of course she can’t hold herself up, so with one hand I held her sitting up and with my other hand, I tossed her devastated diaper into the trash. The sink was nearly too full and in slow motion as the diaper left my hand, I saw her reach for the faucet.( Remeber how grabby I told you she was?!) but before I could stop it, Lily spun the hot water on. I turned it off almost immediately but her little leg was right under the tap and it probably scared her as much as it hurt so she started crying and I grabbed her out of the sink, but not before lodging the other leg under the faucet. I held her little wet body while everyone wondered what I had done to make the little miss howl.

note to self, no more baths in the sink.

So that sucked. I just gave her a bath right before bed tonight, in the tub!, and the little miss has reached another milestone. She can put her feet into her mouth! I even got it on tape. Her future husband will LOVE to see that. She’s been playing an awful lot with her feet lately, so forcing one into the mouth was only a natural progression. It was just a matter of time.

Time to clean.

and I just signed us up for a pottery class on the 30th! It’s at this cool studio a little ways south of here at the same place I bought some pottery wine glasses for Shan at Christmas. The guy is good and I can’t wait to make a bowl or something. hahahha. Last time I ‘threw’ a pot, so to speak was in girl scouts when I lived in Idaho. Let’s see, that would have been almost 15 years ago…shiver.

Shan’s parents said they could watch Lily, so woohoo!

So I got up at 6:15 this morning in order to make my 8 AM appointment with the dermatologist. I have some moles I wanted her to look at and possibly freeze off with liquid nitrogen. Getting up this early meant I had some nice free time by myself to enjoy a shower and a cup of kona coffee. I just figured I’d take Lily to the office with me, so I fed her at 7 and put her next to Dad while I changed shirts (she spit up on my shoulder and me without a preventative burp cloth). For some reason I asked, “Are you sure you wouldn’t want to watch Lily while I’m at the doctor’s? ” He said he was sure whihc is what I was expecting. As I pulled out of the driveway my phone rang and it was Shan. “I’ll keep her if you want me to.” And I’m glad he did. I wound up having to wait in the waiting room for about 40 minutes and can’t imagine how it would have been with Lily up and at’em. It may have very well sucked. When I was finally seen, the doctor deemed that none of the moles on my chest or back were cancerous-looking and that if I wanted to remove any, they could only do two at a time or else the insurance company would count it as cosmetic and refuse to pay. Whatever, mf’ing managed care bs. She numbed two spots on my shoulder and sliced them off. Biopsy results should come in a week and in the meantime, Shan is going to have to help me clean the spots with peroxide, slather with neosporin, and bandaid twice a day.

He’s a lucky man, he is.

Got in 54 samples yesterday so I am busy. Hope Lily sleeps for at least an hour.

So get this. After registering on friendster, my old boyfriend from the 6th grade emailed me. It was such a nice surprise! So far we have emailed each other a few times, filling in the 18 year gap. He’s been married almost as long as me but has an older child, the cutest 2 1/2 year old boy!

I am joining all the other people in holding high the banner of internet adoration. I love it.

Yesterday we went to Shan’s folks house for a little father’s day luncheon. she served the most tender and delicious pot roast I have had in a long while and it reminded me how much I love pot roast. If I weren’t already married, I might have eloped with a potroast. It is just so good. Both sets of his grandparents were there, and his Sister’s family, and also his sister’s inlaws. Lily was a beautiful gem the entire time. She spent a long non-fussy period of time just sitting on my brother’inlaw’s father’s lap. And I used up 3 rolls of film. 3 rolls. Lily’s cousin Makenna sashayed all over the place in different outfits and hats and I can’t wait to see how the photos turn out. Thank god for Ofoto, as well!

The only part that made me a little insane was when they broke out the video of their recent disneyworld trip. Not only had a already seen it once but I was really wanting some blackberry cobbler and play some dominoes.

Me so hungry. It’s way past my lunchtime.

Happy Father’s Day!

Last night we took Lily to her second minor league baseball game experience. She took everything in and was a good little miss until the very end. The ball game was good too, it’s so much better watching it from the 4th row in the stands (in between 3rd base and home) than from the tv. Go figure that one out. Anyhow, I ate the best hotdog I have ever eaten in my entire life at the baseball stadium. With plenty of mustard, a squirt of ketchup, and a teaspoon of sweet pickle relish on half of it. I wanted to know the difference between a dog with relish and without and am happy to report they are both simply divine. Anyhow, it wasn’t until the 7th inning that Lily decided it was time to go home. This was during the part of the game when the teenagers in baseball regalia get out in front and try to illicit team spirit by teasing us with free t-shirts or peanuts. On our side, he held up a ‘Go!’ sign and on the other side, a kid held up a ‘Rough Riders!’ sign and we took turns screaming respectively. Lily didn’t like it. She screamed too.

Earlier in the day, GG and I took Lily to a new french bakery in town and bought an assortment of goodies. A slice of mocha roulade, a slice of triple mousse on a dense chocolate brownie, a chocolate napoleon, and a chocolate-filled bavarian horn. The least inspired was the horn and the best was a toss-up between the first two. I’m just absolutely delighted to have a little french pastrry chef around for when I don’t have the time or inclination to make superfine desserts myself.

And I still have 16 samples to complete by tomorrow morning! wahhhhhh.

Oh my lord Blogger has changed all of it’s stuff around and I had to remember my damned username. That was nearly impossible.

Dinner last night went really well and was very fun. I’ll write about that later but I have to say for now that it’s about time for me to go to Target and get Lily some sippee-cups. She loves to drink water from my waterbottles but it just takes so long. I need to give her something that she can hold with her own two hands and two feet. And talk about grab-assing. She is all about grabbing anything and everything. Over dinner last night she sat on my lap for awhile and kept trying to drag my plate over the edge. Yep, she’s a toot alright.
And she loves icecream.

To hell with what the pediatrician says. Although she never said no icecream. And Lily also likes Stoneyfield Farm ‘yo-baby’ yogurt. Cow-s milk = good to Lilygirl
Still no interest in cereal though. bland fetid nastiness.
